Amateur Radio is a hobby that has been around for about 100 years now! It all started when radio signals were first transmitted cross the globe and that's when people started experimenting and contacting each other all over the world.
Click on either of the images below to view several videos I made describing the hobby, my videos are both on YouTube and also Odysee:
I got started in amateur radio because my grandfather was a morse code operator just after the second world war. He was stationed in Germany and learned Morse in order to intercept and spy on the Russians. He started to train me but as I got to the age where I moved to university the training stopped. After my university time I moved to Philadelphia, USA which is where my wife is from. We lived there for quite a few years and my grandfather died while I was over there. When I returned to Nottingham, UK, I decided I would learn Morse Code fully.
I joined a local amateur radio club, South Notts Amateur Radio Club in 2015 and from that point on I became more and more interested in radios and communications. There are three levels of licencing in the UK and from memory I took all of them over a 5 week period and passed! I have purchased many radios over the years and have a nice little radio system set up which lets me contact people both locally and internationally. I find the hobby very rewarding and interesting and spend a lot of free time that I have using them to contact unusual countries all around the world.
One of my favourite parts of the hobby is Morse Code and you can view my page in Morse Code by clicking here:.
